Those of you that went to nationals last year, do you remember the DARPA Urban Challenge? Well, DARPA has announced the competition will take place Sat. Nov. 3, 2007. The main object, Don't Hit Anybody!!!

DARPA Wrote:Thirty-five teams have arrived at the Southern California Logistics Airport in Victorville, and excitement, energy and enthusiasm are in the air. For the next six days, vehicles will be tested in three test areas. On November 1, DARPA will announce the names of the 20 teams that will compete in the final event on November 3.

From October 26-31, vehicles will be evaluated on their ability to operate with live traffic. Vehicles will attempt to make safe left turns across moving traffic, and pull out at T-intersections with cars arriving from both directions. In other tests, vehicles will follow narrow winding roads, avoiding parked cars and other obstructions. Vehicles must also maneuver into a designated parking spot, and negotiate 4-way intersections and road-blocks.

It was pretty cool, DARPA had a streaming video of it online all day Saturday.

6 'bots finished. Sadly, Princeton had some problems in the rigorous semifinalist qualifying testing. Finalist TerraMax (aka Team Oshkosh; used a huge Oshkosh truck for the vehicle) also got stuck staring at a pillar for a while, so they didnt finish the race..
