Dean's Homework
During the kickoff event each year Dean Kamen asks each team to complete a homework assignment. This year Dean Kamen asked all teams to contact the local media to try to increase awareness of FIRST. CooneyTech Robotics has completed the following -
- The team was featured in the Oconomowoc Enterprise, a local newspaper.
- A student wrote a letter to the Oconomowoc Focus, another local newspaper, and it was published. A copy of the letter can be seen here.
- Over 100 color flyers were printed and displayed around the community and the school.
- A letter was sent to all of our sponsors, asking them to visit us at the Wisconsin Regional. The team also presents the robot annually to all sponsors and at other community events.
- This year the team presented the robot at our Community Fair and asked all in attendance to cheer us on at the Wisconsin Regional.
- The team put together vinyl Burma Shave style signs and displayed them on fences around the community. Each phrase was split between four signs that were hung in a row on a fence line. The phrases were as follows -
- A Student Had / A Knowledge Thirst / So She Joined / Oconomowoc FIRST
- If Your Feeling / Patriotic / You Should Join / US FIRST Robotics
- If Your A / Creative Pioneer / Join US FIRST / and Engineer
- Robotics Competition / US Cellular Arena / March 14-15 Free / WWW.COONEYROBOTICS.COM
- The team handed out our "I Like Robots" t-shirts to people around the community and asked them to cheer on CooneyTech Robotics at the Wisconsin Regional. All students were asked to wear the t-shirts on March 12, robotics day at Oconomowoc High School.
- The team maintained a website with information about the Wisconsin Regional and FIRST. The link was published and displayed on the school sign to advertise the robotics events.
- There are several video clips of the robot on YouTube.
